Sending graduates

I received this note from one of the students who was involved in our ministry at MSU. She is graduating this December. She had just finished her freshman year when she joined us on a summer project in Croatia last time we were there. What a privilege to see a lady like her continue to live a life of impact for the kingdom

Dear Wonderful Staff!!!

I just wanted to say a special thank you to all of you and for everything you do or did at Bozeman Campus! Four and a half years ago, Bozeman was not my first choice but God knew better! He lead me straight to Bozeman. I had heard about CRU and was really excited to get involved. And so thankful that I did. Thank you for being such a positive influence in my life, and for helping me grow deeper to our Lord and Savior. I am so thankful that God directed me to a wonderful community, Christ-focused and loving. There are so many things that I learned in those four and half years, besides school, that have shaped my walk with the Lord and will be with me for a lifetime! You all are special to me and I just want to say thank you so much for walking with our King!!! I am now graduating in two weeks and just wanted to extend the invite. I know it is a very busy time of the year and traveling, but I really just wanted to let you know I am done and thank you! If you are able to attend just let me know.

So thankful for you
In Him,
Nicole

Merry Christmas!!!
Please, when you remember, pray with me in the next steps God has for me.

The end is here…kind of.

It’s dead week at our quarter schools this term. That means that finals are next week and that means our fall ministry calendar comes to a close.

What a joy it’s been to see God at work over the past couple months. We’ve seen lives changed, we’ve seen communites formed, we’ve seen leaders link arms to start reaching their peers with the good news of Christ. There’s been bumps along the road, but what a joy to step into the city and bring the beauty of Christ into people view!

A new school year

We’re off an running with the school year. Our semester schools have started included University of Portland and Washington State – Vancouver! Our staff team will be spending significant time on those campuses this week including helping the student leaders meet hundreds of new students at the club fair in Vancouver on tuesday of this week. Pray for us!

Spring Break(s) update

We’re in the midst of hosting our second spring break here in Portland. As I write this staff and students from University of Montana are on campus at WSU-Vancouver, Portland Community College-Sylvania and Portland Community College-Rock Creek. They are sharing their faith and seeking to surface leaders for a future movement of students on those campuses. I on the other hand am home sick with possible strep throat…ugghhh.

The first week of Spring Break we hosted was a smashing success. Almost 30 staff and students joined us. They shared their faith a ton, served the city and helped launch movements on a number of campuses. At the end of the week was some of the coolest sharing time from Spring Breakers, including a freshmen from Montana who lead a person to Christ in downtown Portland. Life’s being changed while engaging the city!

Here’s our group enjoying Pioner Square in downtown Portland!

Here’s some spring breakers immersed on the MAX (light rail train)

Portland Urban Immersion – Spring Break 2011

We’re hosting students from Washington State, Montana State and University of Montana for Spring Break this year. We’re gonna have lots of fun, but don’t worry we’ll put these guys to work too. We’re trusting the Lord that the extra manpower would boost the existing movements plus launch in a few new places too. Pray for the logistics of hosting potentially 50-80 students!

Cru Conference final video

Here’s a video that was shown the last night of Cru Conference. It gives a great taste of what the conference was all about.

Life is flying by!

We’ve got 5 week old baby boy!

For the whole story of our adoption, please visit Jody’s blog and check out the past posts that recap our story!

We’re launching ministries at Portland State University and University of Portland. So far so good! Today we gave out 300 Imaginary Jesus books and gathered contact information from a ton of students that want to hear more about Christ. It was a great time.

Please pray for us as this month is a critical and strategic time to setting us up for the year. More details to come!

At home in Portland

We’re settled in Portland. Finally!

We moved into our new house on May 1st and are finally feeling like we’re getting settled in Portland. We’re learning a new culture and city…much like serving overseas somewhere. Just getting used to the new grocery stores and traffic is an adjustment!

All things considered we’re doing well and finally feeling like we can take a breath and enjoy the newness of it all and begin to plant some roots. Speaking of roots, we launched into the adventure of gardening a few weekend ago. We thought we’d take advantage of long growing season to get some tasty veggies going in our backyard.

On a personal note, we’re also in the midst of the adoption application process! More to come on this soon in the next newsletter. It’s an exciting story that we can only give God credit for.

So this summer we’ve launched into an intense time of expanding our ministry partner team here in Portland. We’re working hard to have this completed as quickly as possible so we can turn our attention to the school year that will be here before we know it.

We also continue to be amazed at the doors God is opening up for the ministry here in Portland. In fact just yesterday a fellow staff member and I started compiling the list of potential volunteers who would like to help reach college students with the message of Christ and it wouldn’t be a stretch to have 25 key volunteers by the end of summer. Praise the Lord for laborers.

Prayer requests:

  • That God would open up doors for our financial support team to grow
  • For wisdom as we do strategic planning for the school year
  • Pray for our staff team to form well
  • Pray for our adoption process, that God would be glorified in it all.
  • Pray for all our staff and students that are on summer project around the world!

More from Winter Conference

The Portland Metro Staff Team

The Portland Metro Staff Team

This years conference was an amazing time in the Word, worshiping, a day of outreach, fellowship and training times. Our newsletter and the video below do a great job telling more about the conference. Some other highlights of our time there were:

- Our new team was able to all be together for the first time. We are all in transition in some way this spring but it was fun to spend time together, talk about the future ministry of Portland and pray for the Lord to begin moving in new ways in the city.

- We had our first team time with students from the Portland area that came to the conference. It was encouraging that there were 4 students because there has been no staff on the campuses for almost 2 years now but also a bit disheartening because there are 100,000 students in the city who need to be reached. There is  much work to be done and we are trusting God to raise up hundreds of students who want to be involved in the ministry and serve the Lord in the city in the future.
